The work by the 13th century Central Asian scholar Nasir al-Din al-Baydawi quickly became one of the standard tafsirs in the Muslim world, receiving 130 super-commentaries. It has proven popular in regions of the non-Arab Muslim world, such as in the Indo-Pakistani region, Muslim Southeast Asia and especially in the Ottoman world.
In 2016 Beacon Books were proud to publish an introductory volume of the tafsir of Baydawi. This consisted of the translation of the first hizb of the first juz of the celebrated tafsir. The translation was very well received and the author was recognised for his work with the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, a prestigious international prize.

Why we need your help
Dr Haddad was a Senior Assistant Professor at Universiti Brunei Darussalam in Applied Comparative Tafsir until December 2018. Since then he has been working full time on the translation. The money will be used to pay Dr Haddad an advance on royalties as well as helping Beacon Books with the publishing process of this huge undertaking.
