“An exhibition of the very best that modern Muslim culture has to offer…”
The last weekend of October was an exciting one here at Beacon Books as we prepared for the Muslim Lifestyle Expo 2017. This is an exhibition of the very best that modern Muslim culture has to offer. An annual event in its third year of running, it promised to be bigger and better than ever, with over 150 exhibitors encompassing everything from supermarket giants like ASDA to humble halal sweet companies. Alongside the main stage where a catwalk exhibited modest fashion, nasheed artists and comedian Daliso Chaponda (dubbed “the best comedian to appear on Britain’s Got Talent” by Simon Cowell), there were many diverse stands selling innovative products like weight loss coffee. If that wasn’t eclectic enough there was also not one but TWO booths devoted entirely to socks- a halal sock company from Canada and London-based company Wudhu Socks. I think we may have just cottoned on to the latest trend…
Although the event was heavily dominated by fashion retailers in comparison to previous years, it was great to see that we were still joined by Islamic publishing companies such as Minhaj Publications, Kube and Islamic Texts Society. All in all Beacon Books had a fantastic weekend, meeting our existing customers and getting new people on board our mailing list through our ‘Guess the Sweets’ competition. Stay tuned to find out who came closest to guessing the right amount and won £100 worth of books!
Here are some pictures from the event below.
What happened with the competition during the event?
A huge thank you to everyone who entered the “Guess the number of sweets in the jar” competition to win £100 worth of books at the Muslim Lifestyle Expo last weekend.
We received a variety of different estimates ranging from 46 to 652, but the actual number of sweets in the jar was 144.
Congratulations to Fatimah for guessing closest to the actual answer with her guess of 149. Well done! Your prize is on its way to you and we hope you enjoy reading this diverse range of books!
