The Life and Poetry of Khwaja Ghulam Farid – Chris Shackel
The pre-eminent 19th-century Sufi poet Khwaja Ghulam Farid belonged to the Chishti-Nizami Sufi order of the Indian sub-continent. He devoted himself to a life of purity and spirituality and shared his mystical experiences through timeless verses in Punjabi and Siraiki.
We are delighted to welcome Christopher Shackle, former Professor of Modern Languages of South Asia at the University of London, who has translated these timeless and universal poems into English in his innovative new book, The Life and Poetry of Ghulam Farid. Christopher’s book brings a fresh perspective to the work of the great 19th Century poet, combining a detailed biography of the mystic with English translations of the poetry set side-by-side with the Siraiki and Punjabi originals,
Join us for an enlightening event which will end with a performance of some of the poems.
